Rapporto sul Sistema Educativo della Provincia Autonoma di Trento

Demographic change, evolving educational participation patterns, and increasing heterogeneity in student populations are reshaping school systems and challenging their capacity to provide equitable and effective education. Declining birth rates, internal mobility, and shifting territorial distributions can create mismatches between the supply of educational services and actual demand. At the same time, risks of school dropout, unequal learning outcomes, and disparities linked to socio-economic background or special educational needs require more precise and timely evidence. Despite the growing availability of administrative and survey data, information is often fragmented, not fully comparable over time, or insufficiently integrated to support strategic planning. This limits the ability of policymakers and stakeholders to monitor system performance, anticipate future needs, and design informed, data-driven education policies.

The project

The initiative develops an integrated system for monitoring and analysing the school system of the Autonomous Province of Trento through a structured set of indicators and data tools. It is coordinated by FBK-IRVAPP, which is responsible for the design of indicators, the identification of required variables, and the methodological framework for data integration and analysis .

The project is articulated into multiple components: Annual Technical Reports providing systematic, longitudinal analysis of key indicators; an interactive web dashboard offering accessible and queryable data visualisations; dissemination sheets translating findings into concise, non-technical outputs; thematic and evaluative focus studies addressing specific policy questions .

Activities include the construction of indicators across domains such as demographics, participation, learning outcomes, inclusion, and school personnel; the integration of administrative data; and the development of projections on student populations and teacher needs. The project also involves collaboration with the provincial education administration for data access, validation, and alignment with policy needs. Outputs are released on an annual basis, with additional products updated at regular intervals.
