Prof. Gianfranco Cerea studied at the Catholic University of Milan and the University of York (UK), specialising in public economics. His academic career began at the Faculty of Economics of the Catholic University of Milan and continued at the University of Trento, where he was full professor and dean of the faculty.

He has carried out and published research on the financing and spending processes of regions and local authorities, public services, tax evasion, and welfare policies. His most recent studies concern the finance of special autonomies.

He has held various collaborative and advisory positions at ministerial, regional and local level.

He is retired since October 2018. He continues his studies and research on public finance and the territorial dimension, collaborating with FBK-IRVAPP.
