EVIDALI Project Kicks Off: A European Initiative to Advance Data Literacy in Education

The EVIDALI project (Evidence-informed data literacy for policy and practice) has officially launched, with FBK-IRVAPP participating as a key partner in this ambitious European initiative addressing the critical need for data literacy in education across the EU.
As schools increasingly adopt digital tools and generate vast amounts of educational data, teachers and school leaders face the challenge of effectively using this information to improve teaching and learning. While data holds tremendous potential for personalized learning and evidence-informed decision-making, many educators currently lack the necessary skills to harness it responsibly and effectively.
EVIDALI tackles this gap through a comprehensive approach that bridges policy and practice. The project will map data literacy strategies across all EU Member States and establish a three-year Policy Learning Lab (PLLab) where policy makers and researchers collaborate to develop evidence-based approaches to Data Literacy for Teaching (DLFT). Simultaneously, the project will investigate how teachers and school leaders currently use data through a large-scale survey (DaLiS) conducted in four partner regions, identifying training needs and collecting examples of effective data practices.
These validated practices will be made accessible to educators throughout Europe via a MOOC and open educational resources, ensuring widespread impact. The project also addresses crucial ethical considerations and the emerging role of artificial intelligence in educational data use.
Co-funded by the ERASMUS+ Lump Sum Grants programme and led by European Schoolnet, EVIDALI brings together ministries, regional authorities, and research institutes, including FBK-IRVAPP, committed to empowering educators with the data literacy skills needed for 21st-century education.
