Luigina Jessica Montano - Exploring Qualitative Approaches to Evaluation
FBK-IRVAPP is pleased to invite you to the following seminar: Exploring Qualitative Approaches to Evaluation .
With the participation of Luigina Jessica Montano, University of Surrey & IRVAPP
The seminar is held in English.
Abstract
The presentation provides an overview of qualitative evaluation research methods. Qualitative research is an approach that seeks to delve into the depths of human experiences, perspectives, and contexts. The presentation will cover some popular qualitative evaluation approaches rooted in Complexity Social Science such as Theory of Change, Process Tracing and Most Significant Change Technique. These approaches support researchers in answering questions around how and why an intervention or a policy succeeded (or failed) in achieving desired results. Social interventions are implemented in complex settings in constant evolution, with many emergent, unexpected outcomes occurring throughout the implementation period. Moreover, the successfulness of an intervention or a policy is often linked to the complex relationship between activities and entities within said intervention. Thus, combining qualitative, complexity aware evaluation approaches to understand the mechanisms at play within a policy or an intervention can shed light on quantitative indicator-based evaluation results and together, ensure a better understanding of how interventions work to increase replicability and adaptability in other contexts.
