IRVAPP BASIC SCHOOL 2022 FUNDAMENTALS AND METHODS FOR IMPACT EVALUATION OF PUBLIC POLICIES (TRENTO)

Description
The course is designed to be of particular benefit to Master, PhD students and researchers in all Social Sciences needing to undertake policy evaluation analysis using microdata. The following topics will be covered 1) the fundamental principles of impact evaluation with a specific focus on the counterfactual theory of causal inference and 2) a variety of statistical tools for counterfactual analysis (including Matching methods, Instrumental Variables, Regression Discontinuity Designs, Difference-in-Differences, and Synthetic Control Methods). Extensive laboratory sessions will provide the opportunity to apply the various techniques to specific education and anti-poverty policies.

The 14th edition of this school will run over six consecutive days of theoretical and practical sessions, from the 17th to the 22nd of October, 2022. Should the pandemic situation worsen, the school will be shifted online with a 50% refund of fees paid. The course will be taught in English.

Targeted audience
This is a basic course on quantitative empirical methods for policy evaluation and requires previous basic knowledge of quantitative methods that correspond to those taught in introductory courses in statistics and econometrics at the undergraduate level. At a minimum, working knowledge of regression and multivariate analysis is expected. Although the exercises will be guided, basic familiarity with Stata is strongly recommended.

Materials
All the slides used by instructors will be sent to participants prior to the beginning of the school.

Registrations
Candidates can register using the following link and will be asked to complete a short application form. Enrollment and proof of completed payments are due by 30 September 2022. It is advisable that conditional on admission, payment is made at the earliest to secure your place in the program. Enrollment will be secured only after receipt of the payment notification. Payment must be made by bank transfer. Details will be provided in the notification of acceptance, conditional to the offer of a place.

Tuition Fees
The tuition fee is 1200 €. A reduced rate of 600 € is reserved for students.
The fee includes coffee breaks and lunches, while it does not include accommodation or dinner.
FBK offers a scholarship that covers the entire fee only for Ukrainian students.

Cancellation Policy

The cancellation policy is as follows:
– Cancellation requests received by 1 September 2022: full refund.
– Cancellation requests received by 15 September 2022: 50% refund.
– Cancellation requests received from 30 September 2022 and no-shows: no refund.
Refunds will be made via bank transfer, and all bank charges will be for the registrant’s
account.

CFU Accreditation
Students from the University of Trento can get recognition of CFUs (after passing a test on knowledge acquired during the course) to include in their Study Plans as supernumerary (additional) courses. Other students who are interested in credit accreditation can take the final test and obtain a passing certificate. Students willing to gain these credits should contact the admin office of their own university to fix the bureaucratic steps.
