Creation of a panel dataset of microenterprises in the province of Trento

Project researchers

Microenterprises play an important role in the Italian economy, both at the regional and national level, since they represent the vast majority of Italian firms. Nevertheless, there are no surveys that describe such population. To fill this gap, FBK-IRVAPP and the Statistical Office of  the Province of Trento have established the microenterprises panel. This survey is conducted by ISPAT on a representative sample (for sectors) of microenterprises (<10 employees) located in the Province of Trento and being at least 5 years old in 2009, belonging to all sectors with the exception of agriculture and tourism. The survey, conducted in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015 describes the situation of microenterprises at December 31 of the previous year. Although the waves present some differences among themselves, questions concern: employees, investments, operating costs, financial situation, market of reference and competition, public subsidies (with the exception of the fourth wave), expectations and growth of the enterprise (only in the fourth wave), relationships with third subjects, risk aversion (only in the fourth wave), ITC (only in the fourth wave). Moreover, the survey includes some questions on the history of the entrepreneur (age, education, previous experiences, ownership of the firm, and motivations for being an entrepreneur). The project has been carried out upon the agreement <Microimprese> signed within the Memorandum of understanding for the Realization of Statistical Analyses.
